The Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities was honored with the Distinguished Environmental Group Award on the occasion of 439th Foundation Day of the City of Pasig in a celebration held last 1 August 2012.

Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities (CAI-Asia) bagged the Distinguished Environmental Group Awards from Pasig City.
CAI-Asia worked closely with the City Government of Pasig in the launch and sustained implementation of Carless Sundays along F. Ortigas Avenue to create more urban space for Pasig residents and promote pedestrianization in Ortigas Center.
Moreover, CAI-Asia also introduced the concept of tricycle upgrading through micro-finance to Pasig City through its Partnership for Clean Air (a CAI-Asia Country Network in the Philippines) back in 2011. Members of the Pasig Stainless Tricycle Operator Driver’s Association were able to upgrade to the more efficient and less-polluting 4-stroke motorcycles engines through the program.
In her acceptance speech, CAI-Asia’s Executive Director Sophie Punte, vowed to work with Pasig City, Partnership for Clean Air and other partners to introduce car-free days in all 17 Metro Manila cities and other cities in Asia.
Pasig City is considered one of the highly-urbanized area in Metro Manila with a city population of about 650,000 people. It houses Ortigas Center, one of the country’s major business districts, and it is where the national headquarters of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, the Manila Electric Company and the Philippine Stock Exchange are located.
