According to RMC officials, the pilot project started at four points which include Kisanpara Chowk, Bus Depot, Trikon Baug and Indira Circle. The rally was flagged off from Kisanpara Chowk and passed through Yagnik Road, Sardarnagar Main Road, Astron Chowk before ending on Amin Road.
“The four places which have been identified are strategic locations keeping in view of accessibility of the facility for people,” said an RMC official.
“Initially, for one month, RMC will not charge anything and people can take bicycle rides from any of the four points for maximum two hours. People have to show identity card to access the facility. After a month of experiment, a token charge will be introduced,” said an RMC official.
“The new system introduced by RMC will help people to use non-motorized vehicle and cycling will help to improve healthy lifestyle” Govind Patel said. There will be 60 bicycles each at four points and the numbers will increased in phased manner depending upon the response. “This project is on a public-private partnership where people and have been asked to join hands with RMC to promote the environment friendly project in the city,” said an RMC official.
